ORGANIC PRODUCTS
What
is a organic product called?
A
product resulting from biological agriculture is either an agricultural
produce, or a foodstuff resulting from a mode of agricultural production
free from chemicals of synthesis and applying working methods based on
the recycling of the natural organic matter and on the rotation of crops;
those - Ci aim at respecting the balance of the living organisms, which
populate the ground (bacteria, worms of ground etc....)
Biological agriculture employs very elaborate methods and attaches an
importance particular to the environment, indispensable condition of the
safeguarding of the ground.
Within
the European Union, Community legislation applies to the not processed
vegetable agricultural produce, such as cereals, vegetables, fruits, leguminous
etc...
To be recognized as such these products must explicitly refer at the time
of their marketing, with the biological mode of production.
How
to identify the organic products?
The
labelling and the publicity of the products resulting from biological
agriculture are subjected to specific rules, very precise according to
the percentage of biological ingredients, the regulation divides them
into 4 groups:
1.
Organic with more than 95 % : SUBSTAL
The
biological crop products not processed and processed whose content of
ingredients of biological origin is higher than 95 %. These products
can in their denominations of sale, to refer to the biological mode
of production as a mode of agricultural production and to use the terms
of use in each Member State, moreover, the controlled biological crop
products whose raw materials were collected and transformed on the territory
of the European Union, can carry the indication of following conformity:
2.
Organic with more than 70%
3.
Organic with less than 70 %
4.
Organic in conversion

LABEL (AB)
|
|
Relating
to initially only the cultures, it was wide recently
with the breedings (but pisciculture does not concern,
for example).
The
European logo is not obligatory and is used little.
It generally yields the place to logos national or independent,
in general more demanding (in Germany, the Bioland logo
proscribes the soya and fish meals in the animal feeds).
The
label indicates that 95 % of a product are organic and come
from the European territory.
|
|
The
most strict logo AB, of Europe in particular from the
animal point of view requires that a part of the food
of the animals be produced on the exploitation and includes
a list of products which can be imported if they are not
cultivable in Europe (pineapples, for example). |
|
Since
August 2000, the European label is softened and tries
to take a lead in too constraining label AB:

Why
logo "AB"?
- It
allows the professionals who wish it to make recognize the biological
mode of production their products
- It
guides the consumer and facilitates his choice thanks to a visual and
fast identification
What
guarantees logo "AB" on the labelling of a French product?
- It
guarantees the respect of payment the EEC n°2092/91 of modified 24 June
1991, for the vegetable production or the processed products primarily
made up of ingredients of vegetable origin.
- It
guarantees the respect of specifications approved by the French authorities
according to the law of modified 4 July 1980, for the livestock production
and the animal products.
- It
guarantees that a food results from a mode of production which is defined
by the implementation of specific practices: use of green manures, fights
natural against the parasites and strictly limited use of products of
fertilization, treatment, storage and conservation.
- It
guarantees that the food is composed of more than 95 % of ingredients
resulting from the biological mode of production
Why
trust him?
- Because
the logo, like its procedure of attribution and withdrawal were set
up by the State. It belongs to the ministry for Agriculture and Fishing.
- Because
the producer or the transformer was checked and obtained the certification
of an organization certifier approved by the French authorities.
- Because
these organizations certifiers had to answer criteria of independence,
of impartiality, effectiveness and competence, in accordance with payment
the EEC n° 2092 /91 of modified 24 June 1991 and to standard NF IN 45011.
The
Organic industry today
An
always promising market vis-a-vis with the interrogations on food safety
and the passion for the healthy and natural products; the French place
from now on the medical safety of food in the foreground of their waitings
before the taste (survey carried out in 2004 per 60 million consumer).
Today,
there are a true market, a real request and a strong image.
A product resulting from biological agriculture is either an agricultural
produce, or a foodstuff which results from a mode of agricultural production
free from chemicals of synthesis. These products are cultivated with the
aim of preserve the environment respecting natural balance and containing
at least 95 % of biological ingredients.
The
purpose of a food complement is to supplement the normal diet which constitutes
a concentrated source of nutrients or other substances having a nutritional
or physiological effect, only or combined. These complements are presented
in the form of gélules, pastilles, compressed and in the case of SUBSTAL
INTL out of sachet poudre.(Directives European 2002/46/CE of June 10 2002)
At
the end of 2004, France is classified thirteenth, in the last places in
terms of proportion, of the grounds devoted to the bio (2 % of agricultural
surface against 4 % in Germany)
The
consumption of the Organic market in France for 2005 is evaluated to 1,5 billion
Euros (Rebondir/Ag Bio) and represents 0,7 % of the whole of the household
budget and estimates' 1 to 1,5 % of the food budget of the households
with a growth rate from 20 to 25 % per annum. The consumption of the Organic
products should reach 5 % of the food budget of the households.
According
to a recent study carried out by the BIO/SCA Agency, the Organic market has
been in strong growth 20 to 30 % per annum) in France for 5 years.
In Austria and Germany, consumption is 3 to 4 times more high than in
France, which lets predict that there is a strong potential in France,
44 % of French consumed
at least a Organic product in 2004 against 37 % in 2003 (+ 20%) - 42% of French
bought biological food during 4 last weeks against 33 % last year (+ 28
%.84 % of the French have a positive image of the Organic products).
On
a food market additional Organic of 15 billion Euros, France represents 1/25ème
market (source LS 17 of February 26, 2004)
Generally
the food complements Organic, a long time reserved to some initiates, rejoin
new consumers gradually.
